Words for the Road is a done-for-you graduation gift that collects written wisdom from your graduate's family, friends, coaches, and mentors — then compiles everything into a professionally printed hardcover keepsake book. You provide the contact list. We handle all the outreach, reminders, and book production. The finished book ships to your door for $99.

You set up your project online in about five minutes — enter the graduate's info, choose your prompts, and upload a contact list of family, friends, and mentors. That's the last thing you have to do.

After checkout, we send personalized email invitations to everyone on your list and handle all the follow-up reminders over a 2–4 week collection window. Contributors answer a few thoughtful fill-in-the-blank questions at their own pace.

Once the deadline passes, we compile the responses into a professionally designed book and ship it to your door.

Contributors answer fill-in-the-blank prompts from our library of 55 questions across categories like Life Wisdom, Practical Tips, Character and Relationships, and Fun and Personal. A few examples: "The best advice I ever received was..." — "One thing I hope you never forget is..." — "If I could go back and tell my younger self one thing, it would be..."

You choose 10–20 prompts when you set up your project. Contributors then pick the ones that feel right for them, so no two responses to the same question are ever exactly alike.

You set the collection deadline when you set up your project. Most organizers give contributors 2–4 weeks. If you have a specific gifting date in mind, we recommend setting your deadline at least 10 days before it to allow enough time for book production and shipping. We send automated reminder emails throughout the window — you won't need to chase anyone down yourself.

There's no hard cap. Most organizers invite 30–100 people and typically see 40–70% response rates. The more people you invite, the richer and more meaningful the book becomes — we've produced books with responses from over 100 contributors. Think broadly: family, friends, coaches, teachers, coworkers, neighbors, mentors.

Yes — you can add contacts at any point before the collection window closes. Each contact's reminder clock starts from the day they're invited, so someone added later will still get their own invitation and follow-up sequence.

Keep in mind that the number of reminders they receive depends on how much time is left before the deadline. Someone added two days before close will have less runway than someone added on day one.

Our automated reminder system is built to maximize response rates, and most organizers are genuinely surprised by how many people contribute. If you want to give things a nudge, your project dashboard lets you resend the link to specific contacts, copy a shareable link to text or post yourself, or send a personal follow-up to anyone who hasn't responded yet — you're never waiting on us to take action.

Every book requires a minimum of 20 pages of content to go to print. If response counts are lower than you'd like as the deadline approaches, extending your collection window is always an option.

The book is 8×10 inches, hardcover, printed on quality matte paper stock. The cover features the graduate's name and photo. Inside, responses are organized by prompt — so readers experience many voices answering the same question, one after another. It's designed to feel like a real book, not a printout or a scrapbook. It belongs on a shelf.

Your dashboard gives you a real-time view of responses as they come in — so you're never in the dark about what people are writing. You can read along throughout the collection window and get a feel for how the book is shaping up.

Before anything goes to print, you'll also receive a formal digital proof to review. You can flag responses to exclude or request light edits — off-topic, inappropriate, grammar, whatever you need. Once you approve it, the book moves into production.

Plan on approximately 5–6 weeks from your order date to delivery. If you have a specific date in mind, we recommend ordering with enough lead time to feel comfortable — most people aim for 6–7 weeks of runway.
